Banksy and Warhol two geniuses compared

Until June 6th, it will be possible to see an exhibition in Rome that compares two very different artists, but at the same time considered two geniuses of communication. We are talking about the exhibition “Bansky and Warhol” set up in the new cultural space Wegil in Trastevere in Largo Ascianghi n. 5.
The exhibition was opened to the public on December 20th of last year and is sponsored by the Lazio Region with the help of Roma Capitale and was produced by Metamorfosi Eventi and Emergence Festival. The works on display compare the two artists and their two different personalities, exposing the fabulous world of Andy Warhol, one of the most photographed artists in the world, and the anonymous Banksy, who made his art a very particular media event. Warhol and his works became famous as consumer products and whose name has become a real brand and on the other hand Banksy as a communication expert, who continues to make people talk about himself by transforming street art into a front-page event, capable of reaching millions of people, also using his anonymity and becoming an icon like Warhol, both working on their public image. The over 100 works on display come from private collections around the world and from important art galleries. Among the most famous works we remember the model Kate Moss made sensual in the representation of Banksy and the Marylin created by Warhol after the death of the actress in 1962. Also significant is the portrait made by Warhol of Queen Elizabeth with the royal diadem and the one by Banksy representing the Queen with the appearance of a monkey (Monkey Queen). Below you can see the famous portrait of Mao, Lenin and Kennedy by Warhol and Queen Victoria by Banksy. Grace Kelly, Mick Jagger, and many others. We also remember the production of the works called Soup which are considered among the most iconic works of Warhol.
In conclusion we can say that these two brilliant artists have created a mix of celebrity, satire, both knowing how to transform their art into a new extraordinary genre.
Also available to the public are iconic records and posters of the two artists – among all the famous banana from the cover of The Velvet Underground & Nico made in 1967, symbol of a musical generation and references to Pulp Fiction, in which John Travolta instead of the gun has in his hand the iconic banana of Warhol and many vinyls signed by Warhol and CDs with covers made by Banksy.
